To AV OR NOT TO AV IS THIS THE QUESTION OR THE ANSWER?

For the last couple of months, the voting issue has kept me thinking day and night ( Sorry Boss!). The idea of changing the landscape of the voting system in the UK sounds exciting, innovative in some ways, more importantly I sincerely feel it can unleash the word “opportunity for all” a little bit further. Ranking political candidates gives you more say – regarding who comes first and who comes last. If your favorite doesn’t win, you can still have a say. Hmm..What else, I hear you say?

Well, it seems everything gets an upgrade during its lifespan; the London underground, mobile phones, Burger King, MacDonald’s, all force you to have an upgrade while keeping our mouth sealed. With AV, now is the time for an individual to get the chance to upgrade /or not to upgrade the 19th century political system fit for the politics of the 21st century. This is the chance that others around the world are currently dying and fighting for; let us not forget this is the chance that Nelson Mandela and Gandhi never thought would occur in their lifetime. An individual’s contribution to the timeline of democracy can make a real difference.

To be honest, everyone in the media who claims they know a lot about AV did explain AV to the masses to the best of their ability, using simple language. Some used fruits for illustration purpose (an apology for Britain’s 4 year olds), others used numbers, people and so on. At the very least they tried to explain the change in a creative manner.

Generally, individuals don’t like change. Exercising your right to change is more important, in my view, than worrying about the change which may or may not happen. Ultimately the decision is down to you, as you only have one chance today until 21:59 UK time to make this decision which could change the landscape of British politics tomorrow and forever. Don’t hesitate, vote for the answer and not the question. Happy voting.
